5 Most Popular Breastfeeding Positions
The position refers to mother's and baby's position at the breast (this is different to latch). At different stages of your breastfeeding journey you will find different positions more comfortable and practical than others. Your baby may prefer one position over another as well. You can introduce them to different positions regularly.
Laid Back/New Born Position
Side Lying Position
Cross Cradle Hold
Football Hold
Every position has several things in common:
1) Mom is comfortable with arms and shoulders relaxed and supports being used as necessary.
2) Baby's whole body is pulled in very close to mom for feeling of security. Close all gaps between mom and baby.
3) Baby's head is slightly tipped back so that chin presses into breast, nose is completely clear and baby can look into mom's eyes.
4) Baby needs to be positioned so that a deep latch is easy - see 'How To Latch'.
